A City, 2 Towns, and a Village - July 2026

July unintentionally turned into a relatively quiet month on the photography front, having originally planned a number of outings that had to be cancelled due to Mrs B being unwell and in and out of hospital. Thankfully, she is now home and hopefully normal service can resume for August.

City Skylines

One of my outings this month was a walk around Clifton in Bristol. My new job is based in the Redland area of the city and this gives me easy access to the Clifton Downs and the surrounding areas. After a long day in the office, it was great to take an opportunity to enjoy a walk with the camera. The long evening and continued good weather ensured some bright sunlight and a great opportunity to take some photos of the suspension bridge. I'm sure as my time working in Bristol continues this area as well as the city itself will be a regular feature for outings and photography opportunities.

Meandering in Malmesbury

This month's Camera Club outing took me to the town of Malmesbury, where I enjoyed an evening wandering around in Golden Hour. Not too many sunset opportunities in the town centre, however, I did manage to capture the glow and the feeling of the evening I think. These monthly outings during the summer are a great way to push me outside of my comfort zone. I don't usually do much work with street photography and on this trip I was experimenting with how well my tripod adapted to the circumstances. It was, I think, a successful evening and I enjoyed in particular capturing the reflections in the river (first image in the reel).

Walking with a Camera

My other two outings this month came alongside some nice 6-mile hikes through the countryside. My walking outings tend to primarily focus on enjoying the scenery, stretching my legs and those of the dog. However, it's always good to take the camera with you, as you never know what you might capture.

The first walk this month was on the outskirts of Marlborough; where a nice varied walk took me up through the downs and across various fields. The flowers were in bloom and I even spotted a deer running through the fields - although I had the wrong lens to be able to properly catch it. If you look close enough you will see it's head above the crops (see first photo in the reel).

The other walk this month started in the village of Kintbury, near Newbury. This circular walk looped up through the woodland before following the trail of the canal back to the start; it offered some varied photo opportunities capturing both the landscapes as well as some close up shots of the summer flowers.
