Apertures into August - August 2026

August has been a great month for photography and it's been a year since I started this blog - so it seems appropriate that this month I've had some fantastic outings with the camera! This month included 7 individual photography outings featuring countryside walks, a coastline visit and a Kent adventure with an unexpected twist!

A Photography Club Outing - Great Coxwell

The month started off with a fantastic photography outing to the village of Great Coxwell, near Faringdon. A perfect location for some sunset photography in the churchyard as well as exploring the Tithe Barn. I got to try out an ultra-wide lens, thanks to a fellow camera club member, and also had a bit of experimentation with my ND filter to capture what turned out to be a beautiful sunset that evening.

Keyhaven and Hurst

A fantastic contribution to the Coastline Photography project in the middle of this month, with a visit to the Keyhaven Marshes area. A great 8-mile circular walk encompassing the Hurst Spit and the Keyhaven Marshes was complemented by some great photographic opportunities from the roof of Hurst Castle overlooking the Marshes as well. Despite overcast skies, it was a relatively warm day and you could see the Isle of Wight clearly - with a slight haze as the sun burnt the clouds away. Hurst Castle itself presented an interesting photography location as it has the contrast of the original Tudor Castle with the Victorian extensions, which were extensively used in World Wars 1 and 2.

Ambling through August

Once again, August featured lots of opportunities to get out with the camera and the dog on a walk - especially with all the continued sunshine! This month's walks included a fantastic circular walk in the woods at Bramshill, Berkshire/ Hampshire Border; a birthday outing for Mrs B to Badbury Clump, Oxfordshire; a circular walk in Coleshill, Oxfordshire with great views of the Westmill Wind Farm; and a circular walk to the Westmill Wind Farm from home.

The Kent Adventure

The month ended with an exploration of Tunbridge Wells and the Kent countryside. A morning driving a Triumph TR7 through the Kent countryside on a lovely sunny day was followed by an exploration of the town and surrounds of Tunbridge Wells, making for a different day to my normal photography subjects - a different and unexpected twist! Tunbridge Wells turned out to be an interesting town to visit with a camera, and with AXA's head office based there, I'm sure it's somewhere I will be revisiting in the future too.

The weather has taken a slight turn as the month wraps up, with long overdue rain finally arriving! September is looking like it will be a fairly busy month; hoping for some photographic opportunities as we wrap up the summer and head into the autumn.
